Is it me or has the ski jacket choice label Moncler gotten a lot more fashion magazine attention of late? Me thinks the a/w 06 puffa jacket mini-trend has sparked it off. Moncler jackets in their original form don't really hold much interest for me despite its famous reputation for the best down jackets in the world. It's not THAT cold in the UK and I'm not big on skiing and therefore not one for delux skiwear. However, I was in Dover Street Market the other day and I saw Moncler's Gamme Rouge autumn winter collection and I remarked to my friend 'Oooh....it's like they have sprinkled magical fairy dust over puffa jackets!.' (Yes, I am a child...). The Gamme Rouge range, designed by Alessandra Facchinetti, creative director of Gucci that marries Moncler coats and jackets with luxurious details like sequins and organza ruffles to make the garments a much more attractive prospect than just plain skiwear. It also incorporates a jewellery range as well. In person, they really are quite beautiful but the price tag will quite literally make you faint. I suppose fairy dusted jackets deserve the pricetag.
Their spring/summer collection is naturally a lighter affair and as a line of clothing evolves into something beyond the slopes into a pret a porter range in its own right. I love the shape of the light coats and the refining of baseball t-shirts. Not as fairy-dusted as the current collection but nonetheless a bit more spesh than Moncler proper. I gather this collection will be more widely stocked than the autumn winter one so hopefully a more attainable price range?
