What is that sillhouette through all the blue smokey haze? Glimpses of interlocking silver. One literal interpretation of space age fashion?

Perhaps, but Matthieu Blazy’s final year collection at the La Cambre Mode show (catwalk pics of all graduates here), which I attended a few weeks ago, was a highly finished, superb spectacle even if the astronaut them can be read as literal. What fascinated me more than the source of inspiration that Blazy took was his techniques with fabrics. On the catwlk, my eyes were glued to his ways of interlocking, interconnecting and creating complicated layers with an array of fabrics that balance out and don’t, as one would fear, end up looking like astronaut costumes. His muse is supposed to be the French former astronaut Claudie Haigner√© so perhaps Blazy’s intentions were to create a dream ‘working’ wardrobe for his muse. I may not be in the right occupation but I wouldn’t mind moulding to Blazy’s vision in one of his dresses.

Blazy, though technically a recent grad has already garnered attention from his 4th year collection which won him the Maria Luisa award at the Diesel ITS#5 competition (he got to take over the Maria Luisa store windows last October). I keep on throwing about the phrase ‘one to watch’ but in this case, all the watching has already been done and I’d expect him to end up at a big design house in Paris.

These photos were taken by Pierre Debusschere whose portfolio I’ve mentioned before and I think has done a fantastic job, capturing the essence of Blazy’s collection and creating the right atmosphere for the clothes.

This is a funny question, but I have been reading your blog for a long time and have linked it to my blog. I simply adore your blog and your insight to fashion, and I was wondering whether you could link me?
