Floating images in my head often cause quite logical purchases that will seem perfectly linear and organised to me but strike others as random and inexplicable. In Paperchase, I grabbed four packets of these neon pom poms and the boyf asked "What are you going to do with those? Why are you buying them?" It would have been far too long winded and tiresome to explain to him that I've had this image of Harley Viera Newton as featured in issue 10 of Purple magazine (the sheer dress over neon underewear more specifically...) and Yang Du's cuddly toy textures in my head which both simultaneously combusted with each other when I saw the pom poms. No, that would have made me sounded like a loon so I thought I should just keep these things to myself.
It wasn't until I stuck them on an old white Uniqlo top and put on my vintage pleated sheer dress over it and made grunting pointing noises at the Purple and Yang Du images on my computer that the boyf went 'Oh I geddit!'. I can be a talker but sometimes it's just best to shut up and get on with it...
Neons under sheer fabrics is something that has been roaming around in my head for the longest time ever and doesn't look like it will banish just yet. I can't quite figure out how to dissect a soft toy and make it into a garment so the pom poms (these are proper soft toy-type pom poms as opposed to wool ones...) are a baby step. I wish image combustions would happen more often because really, this DIY category has been festering and growing mould far too rapidly...
P.S. I am having an affair with my new Habitat bedding at the moment... it's pretty much out in the open now...
