I apologise for the lack of coherent outfit posts where I tediously take a ton of pics and write accompanying long-winded chunks of text - bet ya miss those eh? Obviously without the ability to wear heels on one foot, it's sort of left me feeling a bit lop-sided overall. Not to mention the physicality of lugging the foot around. I think I was panting out-loud in a comical way walking to the office yesterday (something I haven't done since my last disastrous trip to the gym sometime back in oooh....2002?!?).
Anyhow I have to plough on because I'm not about to bring on any permanent damage for the sake of a heel. So bear with me and my one-flat, one-heel method strictly for illustrative purposes. When I received this Steve J & Yoni P S/S09 ensemble, for some reason, the mind didn't flit back to the original catwalk styling - the loose hair, the cute/ugly soft toy in one hand, the geek glasses etc. It may be the heavy dosage of Mad Men that I've been taking in but immediately, I squealed "Joan Holloway meets Jetsons...!" Joan favours a lot of hip-hugging punchy cobalt blue and on the Mad Men blogs, there's even a post discussing the symbolic significance of the colour used in an episode (interesting stuff if you like geeking out over colour theories...).
So with waist sucked in, jacked buttoned up, any sort of formal stance that might be inside of me comes out to play....
The jacket has some beautiful pleated chiffon panelling on the chest and on the shoulders...
Then The Jetsons? Well I suppose if I really think about it, Jetsons isn't exactly the most futuristic TV show that comes to mind but I guess it's that retro-imagined sort of futurism which is an aesthetic in itself that the ensemble reminded me of. Oh, and the Jetsons aired sort of around the same time Mad Men is set in... I like pat-pat comparisons. It's all too easy to say futurist clothing consists of mesh, clever panelling, metal embellishment so I guess it's better just to admire the marvellous technical feats of Steve J and Yoni P's use of detailing and construction...
Come to think of it the Steve J and Yoni P puffy sleeved jacket that I'm wearing to death (I fear the sleeves will one day de-puff and I will sob like a child...) wouldn't be too out of place in a 60s imagined futurist set... hmmm... another new category to add to the yet-to-start wardrobe database, complete with Doctor Who sound effects and cack buttons.
