I have a mild obsession with going to local auctions lately, with the hopes of maybe bagging myself a kitsch mirroed dressing table with a matching stool at the mere price of £30? Ok, that's a wild and distant dream. But home furnishing fetish aside, I was intrigued to find that our old friend Angels is once again holding a public sale next Tuesday. Nope, not of the tenner-a-bag sort but a Bonhams auction, where prices go into that special and exciting Cash-in-the-Attic moment.
Still I have been pleasantly surprised by the pieces that could sit happily in an outfit. Trawling through the catalogue, I picked out some of them which have pretty extraordinary beginnings... a bullfighter style jacket as worn by Johnny Depp in the Man Who Cried that I see over my grey AA vests and Preen leather trews...
...a gold lame robe
worn by Prince Reynart from the 70s' series of Dr Who with my Richard
Nicoll gold lame trews (exactly the same shade as well...freaky...)...
a tuxedo jacket also from Dr Who that has a pale pink paisley
pattern... a blue collarless jacket from Black Adder that has some
beautiful ruching going on...Julianne Moore's costume from The Ideal Husband. The teal and the
orange velvet is really working for me. The skirt would have to go but
the jacket as a dress coat over a t-shirt dress? ...yessh...
Last but not least though is a Jarvis Cocker's faux fur jacket as worn in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Yup, monkey 'effect' fur strikes again and this one is also complete with hulking shoulder pads.
