I'd wear that red suit one - no lie!
Don't sleep on Caribbean Fashion Week Suzie! I've seen some really hot stuff ( well that was back in 2006 in Jamaica) but it was on par to many international fashion weeks, plus many of the designers like Juicy Jennivi are "international" anyways!

Isabel

I'm loving all of this crazy panelling! I can totally picture your wearing these designs.

Hannah

:o I didn't even realise Caribbean Fashion Week existed!

dust

I'd dare to say that this looks like designed with you on designers mind.

sexyinthecity

Great collection, love the colour explosion!!!

Ali

Oh! LOVE the colours!
And must agree with the others, the collection is very you!

Brigadeiro

Ooh! Love the panelling, beautiful colours & textures!
xx

Alex

this stuff is sooooo good! i love the blocks of color, with the other, softer patterns. i tried looking for more images of her work, but i could find any! where should i look?

KD

Maybe this is just me being uninformed, but I shudder to think of the boredom the average "Caribean Fashion Week" ensemble would inspire. This, however, is quite awesome and is like caffeine, but better, because you can wear it!

Lita

Sounds like the place where you'd get the an interesting mix of cultures that have made there home in there: from French, and Spanish to Indian and Senegalese. Europeans didn't invent clothes!Lita

Avant Gaudy

Futuristic and naturalistic at once. I love it.

I LOVE the leggings and the bodysuit. Being American-Caribbean myself I'm ashamed to say I had no idea there was a Caribbean fashion week!

Tiffany

Please understand that once of the purposes of Caribbean Fashion Week is also for authentic wear that "CARIBBEAN" people CAN WEAR. (at least in my opinion) Some of the pieces are literally "too hot" I understand completely though the frustration of the over done "Caribbean Aesthetic" however, it's a tropical area, the humidity is so high, and it's hot all the time, (I know this, because I live in the Caribbean on the island of Trinidad). There is a reason behind alot of the "flowy cheesecloth" stuff, it's to generate more breeze, more wind, more "light".

And commentator Lita, you're right, it's an amazing synergy and mix of cultures re: post colonialisation.

Michol

I think to understand Caribbean Fashion you need to understand culture, something that is non existent in the UK, Dont underestimate Caribbean fashion designers and no they are not from international places, the BEST designers hail from The Caribbean itself, Claudia Pegus, Meiling, Heather Jones, broaden your horizons, fashion influences everyone and expression could come in all forms of fashion even in the Caribbean Thanks Lita and Tiffany, for the support shown I am Caribbean I am Trinidad, a big fashion enthusiast and proud of what we do at CFW

Tiffany: I agree with you.... but I guess what I'm saying that for me PERSONALLY without seeing the clothes in person and without seeing the shows in person, it was difficult to find something that PERSONALLY interested me and moved me.... I understand that of course, the clothes shown RELATE to the Caribbean....that's par on course.... there's nothing wrong with that either!

Lita: I personally didn't see that rich mix you described coming through in the images I saw (and I did go through them quite meticulously...) perhaps you'd like to point out some specific examples.... and I never said Europeans invented clothes...that would be a presumption beyond belief...

Michol: Well existence of culture in any country is probably NOT a discussion we want to be getting into...especially on a blog about er...fashion...
But point taken... I did look at those designers too... it's a matter of personal taste of course. I found Jennivi's work to be more to my taste and I can only blog about stuff that excites me because that's what this blog is about. Afterall this isn't really the right blog to be giving out a PROPER overview of CFW...I'll leave that to the likes of JC Report or Diane Pernet who do cover a lot of the lesser-known fashion weeks...

Archive Notes

  • As I post so frequently, the archive is organised by week but this blog has been up and running since March 2006 so if you want to read from the ye olde beginning, just keep going back through the weeks or alternatively, go through the archives via Category.

  • It's back to ol' YouTube vids then... I actually prefer the Rusty Egan remix of this track to the original but this will do... the video is a lot of fun...
