In Her Shoes of 2005... crap shit chick flick where Toni Colette's talents are sorely abused...
In Her Shoes of 2010... a diverting new exhibition by the wonderful Daisy de Villeneuve on the 4th floor of Liberty in amongst pieces of furniture that I can only aspire to one day having a flat full of...
I've followed de Villeneuve's work from her shoe boxes that she illustrated for Topshop back in 2002-4 (sadly I don't own one of those boxes...) and her felt-tip pen-on-lined portraits of disgruntled teens, their love woes and some pretty brave make-up and hair choices. I think I may have gone wild on Barry M lipsticks after seeing one too many sets of blue/green/lilac lips on a de Villeneuve girl, angry with her best friend for sleeping with some boy she fancied...
For the Liberty exhibition, de Villeneuve has seemingly pulled out her favourite things and given them a felt tipped/Indian ink fix-up for a sweet set of works that also double up as sellable prints at Liberty. She's also illustrated a set of candles that are also for sale. I'm a simple fashion peep. Nothing pleases me more than a hefty, slightly overpriced and whiffy candle...
Grenson's/Church's/Trickers or whatever other brogue purveyor there may be need to look into making these...
Japanese Ikat or leopard print?
Got a Luella flashback here...
I also loved the little peek into de Villeneuve's flat that Liberty did showing us glimpses of her books and a bucket full of felt tips. The Selby needs to take this to another level, surely?
