Nope, not a reference to the French house that went too far back into time to a late 60s dinner party for my liking. Instead, it's a plural of two designers with the last name of Rocha making an appearance during last London Fashion Week. The first is of course John Rocha who I STILL think is one of the most underrated designers of LFW, his own exquisite work perhaps blighted by his extensive collaboration with Debenhams. The second is his daughter Simone Rocha, who showed as part of the Central Saint Martins MA show and upon closer inspection with its tulle, deconstructed outerwear and shirting and cut-outs is in my opinion the love child I've been waiting for between John Rocha's darkly romantic sensibilities and Simone's own light and youthful touch to her clothes that could be perceived as being too heavy or too much of a throwback to the Yohji/Comme noir phases of the 80s.
These lookbook images beautifully realise the potential relevant vision of the collection, as styled by Celestine Cooney and photographed by Boo George.
I also like how Cooney describes her as a "freshly baked monochrome cupcake..." denoting that she's a sweetheart without being overly saccharine... and that despite the monochrome, there is something subtly sexy about the reveal/cover-up balance of her clothes...
Whilst we're on the Rocha roll, here's Papa Rocha's A/W 10-11 collection with Mayan and Edwardian elements fighting it out in the looks that displayed John Rocha's own deftness and fondness of deets such as ruffles as well as his use of textures in strict colour palettes...
