>> I'm not ashamed to say that much of my short jaunt to Melbourne after Sydney was spent holing up in my hotel the Crown Metropol where I may have gotten momentarily sucked into fruit machines at the casinos and spent a fair amount of time by the sky-high indoor pool.  This was veritable down time, where I can be a selfish slug and not have a full on agenda planned for every hour.  For those wanting a guide, Fashion Hayley has done a useful guide for On The Streets of Sydney and as a reader pointed out, the website Three Thousand is heaps helpful (yup, 'heaps' has entered my lexicon…).  From my perspective, I can only point out the obvious spots of Curtin House, Flinders Lane, Gertrude Street, Brunswick Street and the one place where I did any veritable sort of shopping was at Lost & Found Market where I picked up a patchwork patterned padded jacket that was like the de-puffed version of these floral cushioned coats, which I was very nearly bought on my trip to Reykjavik at Nostalgia on Laugavegur…

However I resisted at the time deeming the puffiness slightly overwhelming.  Lo and behold at Melbourne's Lost & Found Market, an indoor four-floor bazaar STUFFED with all manners of vintage, I found this specimen that was less puffy with more prints mixed in and in a way, a super loud, super garish version of the sort of jackets that my Chinese great aunts wear in the winter to keep cosy in the not-so-cold winters of Hong Kong.  I sort of love how there's a bit of everything here… Cath Kidston-esque roses, leopard print, paisley styled foliage… and best of all, considering everything else seemed pricy to me because of the strong Aussie dollar, $18 for the jacket was a genuine steal.  I may not have much to proffer by way of useful information but the conclusion is that even if the trip was fleeting and I was being a lazy slug, I did come away hearting Melbourne…

    Hey Susie,
I’m glad you enjoyed your short trip to Melbourne. I live here and love it here. I hope whoever your hosts were, they managed to cram as much ‘Melbourne-ness’ into your time :) (now that it is Winter, it’s all about skulking at cafes/bars/galleries trying to stay warm and dry).
It sounds like you hit some of my favourite shopping spots anyway. Shag is another great vintage store in the city. And hopefully you had time to stick your head into GPO, where the more established of Oz designers have congregated.
    come back soon :)

    Susie,
By the look of those pictures I would have also spent my holiday spoiling myself at the hotel. Now to the last pictures, spot on to the current mad fad of mixing prints! Loving the look with the leopard contrasting the softness of the florals. Spot on!

Lyn: I went to Shag in the CPD area but not the one in Chapel Street which everyone tells me is AMAZING. I also missed a stupendous Coogi/Alaia Shag sale on Tuesday night… rubbish! Yes, I’d love to come back!
lyrebirdgully: It’s a VERY old Topshop skirt that is really much too short to wear bare-legged but oh well… I’m praying that these legs are still a-ok to go out alone in the world…
