It wouldn't be a new season if there WASN'T a ridiculous hybrid word being put about. J.W. Anderson's S/S 12 show, which I'll be moo-ing and coo-ing about later, managed to squeeze in two . The first is something I've flirted with before - the skirtigan - cardigan that is also a skirt though in J.W. Anderson's case, there isn't that double function as a skirt is styled to look like a cardigan with none of the awkward fit of a DIY skirtigan.
The second is a beast that I can't quite term yet. I say 'beast' because for some, these shoes will probably seem truly hideous. You should know that my affection for ugly shoes knows NO bounds. Therefore these loafers slash trainers along with more conventional heels made in collaboration for Aldo (is it just me or did they REALLY up their collab game this season - check their Tumblr for a very un-Aldo looking aesthetic...) need a name. The Loaner? Traifer? Loaker as in loafer and sneaker rolled into one? Sneafer? I'll leave it up to you. The qualities of the sneaker part though are particularly compelling. I've been increasingly fascinated about the relationship between conventional sportswear and fashion with the converging at a lot of shows I saw at the S/S 12 in New York, in a way that makes me think, perhaps I'll just pop down to Niketown for a change-up in inspiration. These shoes are yet another point of convergence and for me, might just be the weird summation of the mood of the season...
Too early to tell yet for sure. For now, I'm just hoping Aldo gets these babies into production...
